Simpleware gets Technology Strategy Board funding for sustainable product development
Exeter - 15/06/2009
Simpleware is pleased to announce that their project "SAVING - Sustainable product development via design optimisation and AdditiVe
manufacturING" has been offered funding from the Technology Strategy Board under the "Sustainable Products and
Materials" collaborative R&D funding competition.
During this 3-year project, Simpleware and their partners aim to develop lightweight and sustainable products via material design
optimization and additive manufacturing (AM) which
will significantly save materials and energy consumption in the production of high value products. As an innovative and promising material
process technology, AM allows the rapid development of sustainable products through new lightweight material structure technology that
utilises functional metal and plastic materials more effectively.
Partners in the project will be Simpleware Ltd (lead), Delcam plc, 3T RPD Ltd, Crucible Industrial Design Ltd, EOS Electro Optical Systems
Limited, Plunkett Associates Ltd, and the University of Exeter.
About the Collaborative R&D Funding Competition
The aim of the 2009 collaborative R&D funding competition is to develop new or improved sustainable materials, processes and products, and a
total of eighteen innovative projects are to benefit from investment totalling over £20 million. The work will take place in the UK over the
next three years, and half the funding will come from the Technology Strategy Board – the organisation that drives technological innovation
in the UK.

About Simpleware
Simpleware provides and develops world-leading mesh generation software for the conversion of 3D scan data (e.g. MRI, CT, MicroCT, etc.)
into high-quality computer models used for CAD, Finite Element simulation, and Rapid Prototyping. The ease and unprecedented accuracy with
which models can be generated have opened up computational analysis (FEA and CFD) and rapid prototyping to a variety of research fields,
including: Industrial Reverse Engineering, Implant Design and other Biomedical Engineering fields, Materials Research, Geosciences,
Oil & Gas, Paleontology, and other Natural Sciences. Unlike other approaches, Simpleware provides a complete software solution from
importing 3D images through to direct export to commercial FEA/CFD solvers and CAD packages. This means that with Simpleware software users
can produce better models in a fraction of the time taken with alternative software.
